The use of buzzwords such as carbon footprinting, eco-friendly and sustainability, have all been used by ad agencies and glossy marketers for decades. But to us, sustainability is a much more important principle than just an idea of “environmentally friendly”.
We might only be small at the moment but we have big ideas, so embedding sustainability and a bit of common sense at the start is important to us! This ensures we supply products that are not harmful to our customers, nor do they harm the quality of life of associated employees and their local communities.
To show our commitment we hope to implement our own Environmental Management and Audit System (EMAS) in the near future, but until then we have worked hard on setting up some “common sense” principles -
· Ensuring only labour which complies with the Fair Labour Association is used throughout our practice
· Ensuring materials used in production and transportation are sustainably sourced to Chain-of-Custody standards
· Mitigating our environmental impact where possible, through schemes which a) enhance biodiversity in locations from which we source natural materials b) reduce hazardous materials used in production of our products
· Reducing, reusing and recycling, any associated materials in the KOVERED supply chain
We also believe our activities should have a wider benefit, which is why we are working on developing ties with a charity that focuses on improving education via the use of technology in developing nations around the world. A big step in making sure we help others that do not yet have technology supporting their education programme.
We are proudly developing a solar power storage system which will enable some of the most remote schools and colleges, that have limited access to power sources, continue their education. Look out for further updates in the coming months……
We have also collaborated with eforests here in the UK, with a commitment to plant a tree for 50 cases we sell on the website. Each tree can offset 1 ton of carbon over 5 years and we plan to scale our offsetting up as we grow.
If you know of an engaging charity or organisation, we want to hear about it so please contact us!
